Ladies’ Football
Munster Semi-
Our Junior ladies football team travelled to Mallow last Saturday to take on Clare team Kilmurry/Ibrickane in the Junior Munster semi final. Our girls got off to a great start with Eileen O'Brien and Nicola getting some great points. We were unlucky for two goals in the first fifteen minutes but one eventually came when Nicola kicked in a high ball from a free which Róisín Curran caught, turned and scored a great goal. Our backs had a fantastic first half with Elaine, Caitriona and Niamh holding Kilmurry/Ibrickane Scoreless for most of the first half. Another free from Eileen put us in front at half time 1-
A big thank you to all our supporters who travelled to support us on the day and it was nice to see them all clapping the girls in off the field.

Stradbally Under 13 County Finalists
U13 County Final
Our U13s played Dungarvan on Wednesday night last in the U13 County Final in Leamybrien. The teams had met earlier in this championship with Dungarvan winning well so the girls knew it would be a tough contest. Dungarvan opened up the scoring with some great goals but our girls settled with Rachel getting some great scores. Dungarvan led at the break but Stradbally came out fighting with great displays from Chloe Fennell, Sheena and Rachel McGuckian and Rebecca McCormack. In the last few minutes Rachel got some superb goals but unfortunately they lost 5-
The girls were unfortunate to lose out but they played some fantastic football and we are already looking forward to next year.
A big thanks to Fionnuala Flynn, Johnny Troy and Gráinne Costelloe for training the girls.
Team: M.O'Brien, C.Fennell, R.Dunphy, S.McGuckian, A. Mullaney, K. O'Donnell, R.McCormack, K. Hickey, A.Brazil, R. McGuckian, T.Flynn, H.Walsh, M. Curran, H.Phelan, E.Keane, K.Heffernan, S.Mullaney, A.Keane.
Munster Final
Our Junior ladies team took on Boherbue from Cork last Saturday in the Munster Junior Final in Mallow.Boherbue got off to a great start scoring some great points and a goal. Eileen O'Brien replied with a point from a free but this was to be our only score in the first half. The girls played a great second half with points from Nicola and Eileen but credit must be given to an outstanding Boherbue team who were victorious at the final whistle.
Although the girls lost it was an outstanding achievement for this team who have won two county titles in the last two years and then to be the first ever Waterford Junior team to reach a Munster Final.
Team: G. Costelloe, C. OBrien, E.D'Arcy, T.Fennell, G. Heffernan, N.Power, V. Heffernan, R.Casey, N.Fennell, E.Roche, C. Mullaney, C.Fennell, A.Flynn, R.Curran, E.O’Brien, S.Keane, M.Fennell, L.Cusack, A.Mullaney, C.Crowley, M.Queally, D.Keane, S.Heffernan, R.McGuckian.

Stradbally played The Nire last Saturday and they won on a scoreline of Stradbally 1-
This was a very exciting encounter with no quarter asked or given and the standard of football was very good in what was a very sporting game of Football. We are very grateful to the senior football panel that are extremely committed and they always give their best.
We would like to thank Pat Curran and his management team of Niall Cusack, Liam O’Brien and Paul Mullaney for preparing the team throughout the year. Also a big thank you to team secretary John McGrath and also John Grey for looking after stats. Also to our First aid team of Nina and Máiréad Power for all their work throughout the year and also our physios. There are many people who do lots of jobs behind the scenes from the Chairman and the club committee, our main Sponsor “The Cove Bar” and many other sponsors. We would like to thank all the underage mentors, the field committee, the ladies who prepare food and also our loyal supporters. This is a club effort and we appreciate the selfless work done by many volunteers.

Adult Footballer of the Year
Congratulations to Shane Ahearne who was named footballer of the year 2012.Shane played some great games for both club and county.
2012 Review
The year 2012 was going to be an unusual year for us as a club and parish as one of our greatest clubmen Seán Ahearne had passed to his eternal reward and we were fearful that we would find it difficult to adapt to life without his presence.
Our A.G.M. took place in early January and Pat Curran was installed as the successor to Seán, which was to say the least an onerous task. Pat quickly assembled his team of mentors Liam O’Brien, Niall Cusack and Paul Mullaney and they set about regaining the Conway Cup.
The Senior Football team played a huge amount of games between league and championship games eventually regaining the Conway Cup on Saturday November 9th in a very cold Fraher Field after a replay. We would like to thank Pat and his management team who did an outstanding job in preparing the panel of players and as a club we can safely say that no stone was left unturned in achieving this victory.
In underage football the Under 16 football team under the stewardship of Eoin Cunningham captured the County and Western Division two finals, which was a great achievement. Unfortunately there was very little success in any of the other grades but all the mentors made a huge effort to ensure that we fielded teams in all these grades.
Kieran Heffernan again with the help of his referees and managers hosted a very successful Underage floodlit league.
In hurling we were in the Intermediate grade and Stephen Cunningham had the difficult task of building a team that is now in a period of transition after spending twelve years in the senior grade. Even though the team didn’t qualify for the knockout stages of the Western championship Stephen with his selectors Oliver Costello, Robin Ahearne, Pat Fennell and Charles Walsh introduced many new faces to adult hurling which can only help in the giving them experience for the future. The hurling panel was also decimated with injuries, which didn’t help their cause throughout the year.
On the Underage hurling front Stradbally fielded teams in most grades but they are finding it difficult to compete. The U16 team again under the management of Eoin Cunningham qualified for the County Final but Portlaw narrowly beat them.
Our Ladies’ Football club had a good year in both adult and juvenile age groups and we would like to congratulate them.
Our Cúl Camp was held in August and there was a good group in attendance.
We would also like to thank Maurice Lannon who does weekly coaching sessions in our schools and I know he’s well received.
Off the field we had a few fundraising events and the majority of them were well supported. As is the case in all clubs no matter what code funds are low at the moment and this is an area that we need to work on in the coming months.
Our G.A.A. field was sanded during the year and it’s in pristine condition at the moment. We would like to thank Noel Costello and Gerry Connors who are doing a great job in helping to maintain our club grounds. We would also like to thank Betty Reilly who washed numerous sets of jerseys during the year.
Finally we would like to thank all those men and women, girls and boys who donned the Stradbally jersey this year it was much appreciated. We would like to thank all those committee members and officials and ordinary club members who volunteered in anyway throughout the past year. We would like to wish everyone in the parish and beyond a very happy and holy Christmas.Nollaig Shona agus athbhliain faoi mhaise dhaoibh go léir.
A.G.M.
Our annual general meeting will take place on Friday January 4th in the social centre at 7.30 p.m. our underage social takes place on Wednesday January 2nd at 7.30p.m. In the social centre as well. As always there will be a review of the year and we shall be looking forward to coming year with renewed vigour.
On behalf of the club we would like to offer our condolences to Betty Reilly on the death of her sister Renie Cannon recently. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Stradbally Ladies’ Football Notes
In what was yet another fantastic year for the club here is a roundup on the Stradbally Ladies’ Football club for 2012!!
Junior A County Champions
Our Junior team started back in early January doing gym work and in the middle of March the girls hit the field playing some league games against Brickeys, Old Parish Comeragh Rangers and Kilmacthomas in the league section. In the Mary Walsh 7 aside tournament the girls played Naomh Pól and Kilmacthomas having won against Kilmacthomas but lost to Naomh Pól. We still qualified for the plate section and played against Na Déise and Old Parish. Having lost to Na Déise we played Old Parish in the plate final which we won.
It came to championship time in the middle of the summer with the girls facing Comeragh Rangers and Shamrocks in the round robin games. The girls drew against Comeragh Rangers away and played a must win game against Shamrocks in the last game of the round robin section. In what was one of the best performances the girls played this year they beat Shamrocks and qualified for the Junior A County Final. Our Junior's faced Brickey Rangers in the Junior A County Final in Fraher Field on September 9th. The girls had received a walkover earlier from Brickey Rangers in the round robin section of the championship but having played them in the league the girls knew this was going to be a tough contest. Despite this our Junior ladies team were crowned Junior A champions on a scoreline of 1.8 to 1.4. There were great scenes of celebrations after the game with the supporters coming on to the field. Peter Jordan presented the cup to Captain Gráinne Costelloe who thanked the sponsors, Fraher field for the pitch and our supporters throughout the year. This was a great team performance and all players 1-
However this was not the end for our Junior team as they travelled to Mallow to take on Clare team Kilmurray/Ibrickane in the Junior Munster semi-
Although the girls lost it was an outstanding achievement for this team who have won two county titles in the last two years and then to be the first ever Waterford Junior team to reach a Munster Final.

The Stradbally Ladies, football club and the Junior Ladies’ football team would like to say a huge thank you to Kieran Heffernan. It was great to have him involved and here is hoping that there will be many more years of success.
Minor.
Our minor girls played Brickey Rangers in the first round of the minor championship and had a great win. They then went on to play Old Parish and Roanmore in the next two games of the round robin section of the championship. The girls recorded two hard fought victories and qualified for their first Minor B County Final against the Brickey Rangers. On what was a cold winter’s night the two teams played some fantastic football however, Brickey Rangers were to be victorious on this occasion. This is an up and coming minor team with a lot of girls eligible to play next year. Thanks to Gráinne Costello, Johnny Troy and Fionnuala Flynn for training this team.
U16
Our U16's started off their season in April where they played Kilrossanty, Ardmore and Ballyduff in the round robin games. They then qualified for a semi-
U15
We entered in an U15 team for the first time this year in a development championship set up by the county board. The girls were drawn in the A section of this against Comeragh Rangers and Dungarvan. The girls gained great experience from these games but did not qualify for the county final of this championship. Well done to all involved.
U14
The U14's started their season in early June and played Comeragh Rangers, Dungarvan and Na Déise in the round robin games. They qualified for their second U14 semi-
U13
Our U13 team started off their championship with an away game to a strong Dungarvan team. They then went on to play Comeragh Rangers and Tramore in the round robin sections of this championship and qualified for the U13 championship final against Dungarvan on the 17th October in Leamybrien. It was a miserable night for a game of football but these two teams gave us a great game of football but unfortunately the girls lost out to a strong Dungarvan team in the end. Well done to all involved especially Gráinne Costello, Johnny Troy and Fionnuala Flynn their trainers.
U12 County Champions
Our U12's started their season in early June. They played Ardmore, Ballyduff, Kilmacthomas and Clashmore in their round robin games having two wins and two defeats. However the girls qualified for the U12 County finals and faced Clashmore in the U12 C County Final in Kilmacthomas on July 8th. The girls had played Clashmore earlier in the championship and were beaten so they knew this was going to be a tough contest. It was a wonderful contest with some great football played and our girls came out on top being victorious in their third U12 County Final in a row. There were great scenes after the game with Captain Sheena McGuckian thanking all those who came and supported and the Clashmore team for a great game.
Team: Megan O'Brien, Becky Keoghan, Sheena McGuckian, Roisin Dunphy, Emily Keane, Orna Nic Aoire, Hannah Walsh, Kailyn O'Donnell, Hayley Phelan, Aoife Brazil, Sarah Mullaney, Kelsey McGrath, Kate Heffernan, Tara Kett, Zoe Kett, Tori Forsey, Emily Rousseau and Louise Casey
On behalf of the club I would like to thank all those who came and supported the girls, Terrence Morrissey for the Jerseys, Melissa Fennell, Amy Whelan and Tracey Fennell for coaching the girls and all those who helped out training the girls Sheila, Valerie and Kieran Heffernan, Gráinne Costello and Fionnuala Flynn. Their help and support was greatly appreciated during the year.
Our U12s headed to Clonmel in July to compete in a Munster blitz. This was an excellent experience for the girls as they played teams from Cork and Tipperary.
U10
Our U10 girls played a few games throughout the year. They played Roanmore, Comeragh Rangers, and Kilmacthomas. It was great to see all the new players coming up and the future looks bright for our underage teams.
Primary Game
Well done to Hannah Walsh and Meadbh Curran who played at half time of the Munster Final this year. It was great opportunity for the girls to play at this level.
